Game and Apps Development | IADE-UE

The Games and Apps Development B.Sc. of IADE - Universidade Europeia in Lisbon/Portugal, is a direct response to market needs, developing in its students the skills required from game as well as web and mobile application development professionals:

• Project-based learning – In each semester of degree, from the first to the last, learning is based on a single, realistic project. During the degree, with the support of the faculty and professionals coming from companies in the sector, the GAD student integrates teams that create a total six products (games or applications).
• Clear focus on development – Even though the GAD degree covers the various aspects of the creation of video games, the focus of the degree is clearly software development and software engineering.
• Multidisciplinary teams – Several of the six semester-long projects are carried out by teams that integrate not only GAD students but also students from other B.Sc.’s, such as Global Design. 
• Portfolio – The products created in each of the semester-long projects imply integration of acquired knowledge, teamwork, and interaction with students from other B.Sc.’s (with stronger skills in game art and game design). 
• Multiple languages – GAD students develop their projects using multiple programming languages of increasing complexity (e.g., Processing, JavaScript, C#, and C++), making them even more interesting professionals for the industry.
• Multiple technologies – The GAD student gains experience using multiple technologies, including game engines such as Unity, Unreal, GameMaker, or Construct, mobile and web (full stack) development frameworks, 3D, game consoles, PCs, etc. 
• Participation in events and market integration – Students are invited from the start to participate in multiple events related to the area, including talks, workshops, student project showcases, and game jams. 
• PS4 games – Universidade Europeia is a member of the PlayStation™ First Academic Program run by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), which provides access to professional development hardware and software tools for both staff and students.

The GAD B.Sc. is taught entirely in English and includes a mandatory international mobility semester which provides the students with the global perspective that is essential in this professional field. Students may choose to do their mobility semester in the Media Design School* (Auckland, New Zealand).
